Punjab Agriculture Department (PAD) has advised the intending date-palm growers to plant the trees in September and October as grafting of this plant is done in these months in Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Jhang (known areas of palm production in the Punjab province). Spokesman of the department said on Wednesday that place for plantation should be prepared 10 to 15 days before sowing and should be filled with water and silt. He also said that appropriate pesticide should be applied to the plant while sowing to save it from termite attack and plant should weigh from 10 to 15 kilograms at that time. He said that all the plants should be planted at 20 to 25 feet away from each other and every line of plants should also distance the same with each other. The spokesman also advised the growers to only plant recommended varieties of date-palm.
