The running water in the rivers Jhelum and Chenab increased at rim stations after rains in their catchment areas during past two days, Flood Forecasting Division said here on Friday. It said water flow in the River Jhelum had increased from 18,000 cusecs to 33,900 cusecs at Mangla dam and in River Chenab from 38,800 cusecs to 57,100 cusecs at Marala, near Sialkot. The water flow in the mighty Indus has also increased by 6,000 cusecs at Tarbela Dam.
The Indus River System Authority is discharging 125,000 cusecs water downstream the Tarbela Dam and 30,000 cusecs of water from the Mangla Dam for hydel power generation and crop irrigation purposes. Meanwhile the flood situation in Sindh has been normalised as all the major rivers are flowing in their normal state of flow, FFD added.
WEATHER FORECAST FOR TODAY: Scattered thundershower with isolated moderate falls is expected over Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Malakand, Mardan, Hazara, Kohat, Peshawar divisions alongwith Khyber, Mehmand, Bajour, Kurrum agencies, Islamabad and Kashmir. Isolated thundershower is likely to occur over Makran, Kalat, Quetta, Zhob, Lahore, Sargodha divisions, Gilgit-Baltistan, and coastal areas of Sindh.
WEATHER OUTLOOK NEXT 48 HOURS: Scattered rain-thundershower is expected in Kashmir, Malakand, Hazara, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Peshawar divisions, while isolated in Kohat, Bannu divisions and Gilgit-Baltistan.
